Integrations
Connect an e-mail account once per project, then let tests read and send mail with it, or start a test plan when a matching email arrives.
An integration is an external account your project uses. Today that is an e-mail account. You connect it once, and the project can then use it in two places:
- Tools: the Read Email and Send Email tools let a test read recent messages and send messages from the account.
- Triggers: a test plan starts when a matching email arrives.
Connect an e-mail account
- Open Extending → Integrations.
- Click Connect Account.
- Pick your Mail provider: Gmail, Outlook.com / Office 365, Yahoo Mail, iCloud Mail or Fastmail. The IMAP and SMTP servers are filled in for you. For any other provider, pick Custom and enter the servers, ports and username yourself.
- Enter the Email address and, optionally, a Display name.
- Enter the Password / app-password. Most providers require an app-password here, not the password you sign in with. For Gmail, see below.
- Click Connect.
AskUI tests the connection before it saves the account. The test can take up to two minutes. The password is stored encrypted on this machine, never in the project folder, so a colleague who opens the project connects with their own credentials.
Gmail: use an app-password
Gmail does not accept your normal Google password from a mail client. If you enter it, the connection test fails with a message from Google like:
Application-specific password required: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833Create an app-password and use it instead:
- Turn on 2-Step Verification for the Google account, if it is not on already. Google offers app-passwords only with 2-Step Verification.
- Open myaccount.google.com/apppasswords while signed in with that account.
- Enter a name (e.g.
AskUI) and click Create. - Copy the 16-character password Google shows and paste it into Password / app-password in AskUI. Spaces don't matter.
Google shows the app-password only once. If you lose it, delete it on the same page and create a new one.
If the page says app-passwords are not available, the account is probably a Google Workspace account whose administrator has turned them off, or one enrolled in Advanced Protection. Ask your administrator, or use a different account for testing.
