Management Report

One report over every run in a date range, pass counts per test, test period, devices, and the software version you name, built without an AI model and delivered as PDF, JSON, or JUnit XML.

The Management Report summarizes the runs of the project in a date range: how many tests ran, how many passed, per test and in total, and on which devices. Use it to sign off a release without opening every run.

No AI model builds it. It counts the recorded results and the run details, so the same runs always give the same figures. It costs nothing to build.

Create a report

  1. Open the Runs page. Make sure no test is selected.
  2. In the report pane on the right, click Generate Management Report. A dialog opens.
  3. Pick the date range: 7 days, 30 days, or 90 days, or set the two dates.
  4. Optional: type part of a run's name under Run name, for example Nightly. As you type, only runs whose name contains the text count for the report, regardless of case. Other runs are not listed and not counted.
  5. Check the list of runs. All listed runs are included. Untick a run to leave it out, or use Select all and Unselect all (several runs at once).
  6. Optional: fill in the fields under Additional information (below).
  7. Optional: tick Bundle the execution reports. To include the tests that have no report yet, also tick Generate missing execution reports first.
  8. Click Generate. After a few seconds, the dialog shows The report is ready.
  9. Click Download PDF, Download JSON, or Download JUnit XML to save the report. On the desktop, Open shows the PDF in your default PDF viewer.

Change selection goes back to the range and the runs. Done closes the dialog. Nothing is saved in the project: the report exists only as the file you save. To create it again, pick the same range, runs, and options.

What the report shows

The PDF starts with a dark navy cover page. It shows the AskUI logo, Management Report · <period>, the project name with Management Report below it, and a row of headline facts: the test period, the software version, the runs, the pass rate, the devices, the plans, the tests executed, and the size of the appendix. The other additional information you entered joins them.

Numbered sections follow:

  1. Overview: a table of facts, including your additional information, five key-figure cards, and your Remarks. With a Run name filter, the table has a row Runs named — containing “<text>”.
  2. Results: the two charts.
  3. Tests: the table of tests.
  4. Runs: the table of runs, with Important notes on how the figures are counted.
  5. Test Execution Reports: the test executions of the counted runs that have an execution report (details).

With bundled execution reports, an appendix follows. Each report starts on its own page.

A dark End of Report page closes the PDF. Every page between the cover and the end page has a header and a footer:

  • Header: the AskUI mark, AskUI — <project> · Management Report, and on the right the period, or the Reference when you entered one.
  • Footer: Generated with AskUI Desktop with the date and time, and Page n / m.

What the sections hold:

  • Key figures: runs, tests executed, passed, failed and broken, and the pass rate.

  • Test period: the first and the last run in the range.

  • Software version: the version you entered, or — when the field is empty. It belongs to the report, not to the runs.

  • Devices: the device profiles the runs used, by name.

  • Charts: two, in this order.

    • Pass rate per test, the main chart: one stacked bar per test (passed, failed, broken), with its pass rate and passed out of executed beside it. The test with the lowest pass rate comes first.
    • Tests executed per day: stacked lines, passed below and failed or broken on top, so the upper line is everything that ran.

Green means passed, navy failed, and pale lavender broken. The FAILED marker in the tables is navy too.

  • Tests: one row per test, with its runs, passed, failed, broken, pass rate, and the status of its last run.

  • Runs: every run in the range, with its start time, device, and passed out of executed tests.

The counting rules are the same as in the summary report.

Failed setups and teardowns

Setups and teardowns do not count towards the figures, but the report names every one that ended FAILED or BROKEN, so tests skipped because of a setup never go unexplained:

  • Runs: the run's row is marked with a short note, for example Setup login failed F1. The reference leads to the Setup and teardown failures block below the table, which holds the status, the run, and the full recorded reason. For a setup, it also says how many tests of the run did not run.
  • Overview: a warning below the key-figure cards.
  • Important notes: one extra note.

All three appear only when a counted run had a failed or broken setup or teardown. A setup's WARNING is not a failure, because its tests ran.

Leave out a run

A run on a broken or misconfigured device can distort the numbers. Untick it in the dialog's run list, and the figures, charts, and tables no longer count it. The report still lists the run, marked as excluded, so it shows what was left out.

To change several runs at once, mark them first:

  • Cmd-click (macOS) or Ctrl-click (Windows) marks one more run.
  • Shift-click marks every run between the last marked one and this one.
  • A plain click on a row flips that run only.

With runs marked, ticking or unticking the checkbox of one marked run applies to all of them. A bar shows N marked and offers Include, Exclude, and Clear. Select all and Unselect all include or exclude every run in the list.

Bundle execution reports into the PDF

Bundle the execution reports adds the execution report of every test execution in the counted runs to the PDF, as an appendix. It is off by default. Turn it on when you need one file that holds a release's full evidence, for example for an audit.

Not every test execution has a report, for example when Create report is set to failed or broken tests only. Tick Generate missing execution reports first to write them before the PDF is built. The option is available only when you bundle, and it shows how many reports are missing. While it works, the dialog shows Writing the missing execution reports — n of m…. Each report costs model tokens.

Section 5, Test Execution Reports, lists the test executions of the counted runs that have an execution report, with the columns #, Test, Run, Date, Duration, Status, and Page:

  • For an execution whose report is bundled, # shows its appendix number (A1, A2, …) and Page the page the report starts on. The number, the page, and the test name link to the report. The links work in every PDF viewer.
  • Without bundled reports, both columns show —.
  • A note below the table counts the executions without a report, in two groups:
    • Executions that can still get one. Generate missing execution reports first writes these. For example: "Only the 4 test executions with an execution report are listed. 2 more have none yet."
    • Executions that can never have one, because they recorded no test result (runs from before results were recorded) or their run kept no conversation. For example: "Only the 4 test executions with an execution report are listed. 6 cannot have one: they recorded no test result, or their run kept no conversation."
    • When both apply, the note names both counts.

The appendix holds execution reports only. To share the summary of one run, export it from the Runs page: Export.

PDF, JSON, and JUnit XML

The PDF is a document for people. The JSON holds the same data for your own tools and dashboards: the JSON fields. The JUnit XML holds one test suite per counted run, for your CI system: JUnit XML.
